Don Francisco Apartotel is named after one of the most prominent and innovative Costa Rican citizens of all time, Ing. Don Francisco Vargas.
He was a man of many talents, and played a crucial role in the development of many important projects in his native country. He was instrumental in the design and implementation of hydroelectric plants, electric grids, bridges, and many other projects that advanced the technology of Costa Rica.
Costa Rica has Don Francisco to thank for moving Juan Santa Maria International Airport from Sabana to its convenient location today in Alajuela. This is Costa Rica’s busiest and most modern airport where most of its tourists and business people arrive each day to Costa Rica.
One of Don Francisco’s greatest accomplishments was the construction of Lake Arenal, which covers the old city of Arenal beneath it. This modern engineering marvel provides most of Central America with its essential electrical power. Don Francisco was years ahead of his time in bringing new innovations from his years of study and work in both Europe and the United States to Costa Rica. The legacy of Don Francisco is the reason why Costa Rica is the leader in both progress and peace in all of Latin America in the new millennium.
Don Francisco Vargas has deservedly earned his way into the Engineer’s Hall of Fame in Costa Rica.
